Lewitt LCT640: The Holy Grail? - Review
The Lewitt LCT 640 is the most versatile microphone I have ever used. I couldn’t get this mic to sound bad on anything. It was just way too easy to get a quality sound. Present, clear, and soft are the words that come to mind when describing this amazing microphone. It also has incredibly low self-noise. Noise was never an issue even at higher gain levels. I can’t even really give specific placement or usage tips because it’s just so easy to get a good sound with this mic. Let your vocalist practically eat and spit on the microphone; it sounds good. Have your vocalist sing from 1–2 feet away; it sounds good. I rarely find it this easy to get such a fantastic sound with other microphones.
Amazing sound and build quality, HPF, pad, and 5 polar patterns all for the street price of $800!? That’s insane! If you’ve been searching for the holy grail of all-purpose, versatile microphones look no further. Well, at least, MY search has ended here. Go to Recording Hacks

New! DTP 640 REX Now Shipping!!!

The two high performance workhorses of the DTP Percussion series, the DTP 340 REX and the DTP 640 REX, have undergone a model upgrade in 2012. Now the two bass specialists are even more versatile and specialized. The word on the street is that this is the "BEST KICK DRUM MIC EVER!"

"'Strengthening our strengths’ is certainly the guiding principle behind every meaningful advancement", notes Roman Perschon, CEO of LEWITT, “but it’s not so simple when it comes to microphones. Naturally all microphones have an area of application for which they are particularly well suited – our two REX models are of course great for kick drums and will stay that way. But they are not only great for kick drums. The DTP 640 REX in particular is a good choice for all bass-heavy applications and this is exactly what so many users appreciate about our microphones. Our goal in the REX model upgrade is to preserve the wonderful creative freedom in the application, while providing an even more specialized frequency response geared towards a fuller sound on the kick drum." Impossible? Not at all.
Both the DTP 340 REX and the DTP 640 REX will now have a slide control-activated ‘Enhanced Frequency Response (EFR)’ in which the dynamic element guarantees an unbeatably powerful sound emphasizing frequencies from 70-150 Hz and 3-5 kHz – especially optimized for use on kick drums. The flagship of the DTP series, the DTP 640 REX, combines this sound quality with the advantages of dual-element technology – a dynamic element and condenser element precisely positioned in the housing to capture the sound as comprehensively as possible will naturally still remain on separate channels on the mixing board. This is how the greatest possible variability in shaping ideal frequency response for powerful bass will be offered. Like its younger brother, the DTP 340 REX, the DTP 640 REX has selectable EFR via the slide switch on the microphone, which adapts only the character of the dynamic element to the frequency range relevant for kick drums; the condenser element continues to work with a neutral response. You can use the mixing board to combine and further process these two sound qualities on demand and according to the desired sound. The DTP 640 REX demonstrates the advantages of the two elements when recording with ‘Dual Enhanced Frequency
Response’. Here, the two elements share the work: with this setting, the condenser element focuses on frequencies from 70 to 150 Hz and delivers a full body sound. The dynamic element provides the necessary power by focusing on the range between 3 and 5 kHz. With the possibility of being able to adjust the two signals separately on the mixing board, you can actively intervene in the character of the kick drum and more quickly achieve the desired sound. “Now the DTP series motto applies more than ever: ADD MORE BOOM TO YOUR CHA”, beams Steffen Grachegg, Head of Marketing at LEWITT. “The new features make the REX series a perfect kick drum microphone without having to give up the balanced character that has brought us so much praise for both the 340 and the 640 REX because all the features are naturally preserved and can be turned off when not needed. We give users total control over their sound.”
